NEW EMPLOYEE!
We have a new edition to the Yarn for Ewe family, Diane Jackson.  Diane is a retired teacher from
Haslett who was taking our Beginning Knitting class--and doing a wonderful job!  She was in one
afternoon working on her sweater and said, "This would be a great place to work."  And, I said, "As
luck would have it, we're looking for someone four hours a day a couple days a week." Although she
wasn't looking for a job, we met each other at just the right time, and the rest is history.  She is
married, has two married daughters and two grandchildren, Hannah and Ben.  (It's always  fun to
hear the Hannah stories!)  Diane is learning to knit a breakneck speed, and is a joy to have in the
shop.  Stop in and welcome her.

FELTING WORKSHOP--December 9
Mark your calendar for the second Sunday in December and plan to attend our felting workshop
with Ginger Petty.  We have several kits to choose from, and Ginger will bring some felted bags that
you can also choose from.  I tried it, and it was really easy--much easier than I thought it would be.
You will be very surprised what you can do with this technique.  The cost of the workshop is $25, plus
supplies.  Sign up as soon as possible so Ginger will know just what to plan!

COLOR WORKSHOP--January 19, 2008 from 3 to 5 p.m.
What an opportunity!  Anyone who works with color will benefit from this experience, whether you're
a knitter, quilter, or planning to redecorate a room.  Laurie Bass, who studied at the Art Institute in
Chicago, will be the guest lecturer.  Laurie, a working artist, taught art in Illinois for a number of years
and has designed sets for East Lansing High School's theatre productions for several years.
In the workshop, Laurie will discuss color wheel basics; explain how we see color as light and
shadow, texture and finish, vertical or horizontal; discuss basics of color intensity, which is how to
determine pigment intensity; and, how to substitute one color for another using pigment intensity.
She also will discuss how color and emotion affect our color choices and how to choose color
based on likes and dislikes and how the item will be used.
While Laurie is discussing color, you will be knitting samples!  (Did you know that it has been
proven that if you knit during a lecture/conference you will retain more than if you just sit and listen?)
If you have them, you are asked to bring circular needles size 4-5-6-7-8 with you.  YFE will provide the
yarn.
Because we are doing this workshop at Yarn for Ewe, the seating space will be limited, so make
your reservation early.  Cost for the workshop is only $25, which is a little money for a lot of
information!!  Call the shop, 517-349-9665, or email me at mlosborn@sbcglobal.net to reserve you
place.

There is a lot  new at Yarn for Ewe.  First is our new look.  With the help of a wonderful customer,
Chris H.,  and input from Deanna A. and Ruth, the shop has been totally turned around.  It looks
bigger, and the new lighting makes it look brighter.  We're working at arranging the yarn by weight.
Ruth has the best eye for that, and we're counting on her to tell us where it goes!  (Any idea how to
get the sticky tape gunk off the carpeting?) Windows are next!
You will find several new yarns along with a wall full of Addi turbo needles, plus a new line of
bamboo needles from ChiaoGoo.  The new needles look and feel like Crystal Palace, but they're
less than half the price.  We have all 50 solid colors and seven varigated colors in Berroco's new
worsted weight acrylic, Comfort, which is the perfect answer for people who are allergic to wool.  It's
also great for knitting garments and home decor items than need to be machine washed and dried.
It does NOT feel like acrylic.  It's as soft as a baby's bottom, and doesn't squeak on the needles!
Berroco waited three years for this yarn to be perfected, and it was well worth the wait.   Also from
Berroco is a new chunky alpaca, Peruvia, in 10 colors.    Classic Cotton has been restocked with
several new colors.  Plymouth has come out with new Encore colors that are self-striping, which you
will find on our shelves.  Nancy Lindberg, who wrote the best sock pattern ever, once said that we are
the "Sock Capial of the U.S.", and I must say, we have A LOT of sock knitters.  New sock yarn
includes a new hand-dyed yarn from Rio de la Plata,  Tofutsies from South West Trading Company,
Regia Bamboo from Westminster, and some solid colors from Lang.
Stop in soon and see our new look along with the new products for your winter knitting.
I would like to personally thank you for looking at our website.
There will be many changes throughout the year - so please
come back often!
